David H. Qu — Anamnesis Auteur | Sublime Mise-en-Scène Alchemist | Cinematic Philosopher of Asian-American Renaissance


Born in 1986, Qu was christened “David” by his American aunt, a descendant of a quiet legacy of institutional directors. Nurtured amidst the twilight elegance of his grandmother’s manor in Shanghai French Concession, his soul steeped in the essays of the Renaissance and the ästhetische of European antiquity — long before the world could title his artistry. David debuted the glimmers of his film career in 90s Shanghai — the mordor metropolis challenged his ancestors’ exodus — where he worked on-set in 1st-line feature productions such as Summer Tea (Tokyo scene, 1999), alongside leading stars earning box-office triumph of $21.3 million, a creative crucible encountered with the legendary studios that etched the gilded labyrinth of Asian cinema’s mythic epoch and garnering global acclaims — their producer identified herself as Golden Harvest Entertainment.


A published dramatist before the age of twenty, David was summoned from quill to lens — entering the film industry through a B.A. in Television and Radio Broadcast Directing (formerly Digital Film Directors major) from Media College of Nanjing Arts Institute—formerly Shanghai Art College of French Concession. Selected from millions of applicants, his anointment into one of China’s premier film academies in 2005 formalized his academic pedigree — the proficiency of a precision-driven directing orthodoxy — located in Nanjing, the historic capital of the U.S.-supported ROC Capitalist dusk (1912-1949) where east and west currents converge. David inherited methodology from Dutch maestro Pieter Fleury -- Chairman of the Netherlands Film Fund. Through his rigorous mentorship, David acquired a systematic directors’ cultivation that established his foundation in orthodox academism. David Qu’s early scholarship in montage, sound, and visual rhythm forged the meditation he now terms Poetic Cinema — a philosophy where ritualistic grace conducts renaissance, now pulses in every sublime cut.
 
Served in major film crucibles and broadcast ateliers across Asia and North America as validations for his impossible-to-ignore value. Since 2008, David Qu has worked professionally as a cinematographer across several movie companies, television stations, and large-scale concert spectacles in key metropolises — including a tenure with the Environmental Program Unit affiliated to Nanjing Television Station (today's Jiangsu Provincial Broadcasting Corporation). During his early years, he traversed the globe to pilgrimage the diverse languages of filmmaking. His prose tomes and canvas visions garnered critical circles’ recognition and several distinguished nominations. Surmounting TOEFL’s distinction and recognized for Extraordinary Ability, David accepted a formally solicited invitation to the United States in 2012 for Eurasian family reunification—the legitimate ascent for his artistic pursuit. Subsequently, David advanced his challenges via MFA Film & Animation Directing at the Rochester Institute of Technology. An experimental offensive not to penetrate the formidable armored bulwarks of the fabled Hollywood industrial establishment — but an ascent beyond it, harnessing the confluence of opaque currents within film finance.
 
After David left graduate college, and had faith in the film industry experiences and finance. He continued to survive inside several White CaucAsian-American film crews (including the US Military) as a cinematographer & director of photography for the next few decades under anti-asian pressure. Although the freedom of filmmaking American dream was his lifelong pursuit. 
 
Next-level movie budgets and the development of business are always in David's vision, although the financial rise is harder. David is a Practical artist, having his film company and studio crews, not just owning 18 years of experience in actor guiding, camera operation, film directing, nonlinear editing, CGI SFX, etc., but majorly focusing on montage poems and movie magic that other people barely do, the world needs his entertainment business.
